What makes a Zip
Zipper are made up out of three major parts (All of these can be constructed out of different materials depending on the application that the zip is to be used in): a. Tape b. Teeth c. Slider Top Stops - Stop the slider from continuing past the zip teeth.
Slider Body - The slider conects the teeth together or seperates them when the slider is closed or opened. Puller - The puller is used to move the slider body up and down. Pullers can be made in different styles and can have individual logo's placed onto them. Teeth - The zip teeth are the backbone of a zip and join together when a slider is passed over them.
Tape - The zipper tape is generally made out of polyester but can be manufactuered out of other materials. The tape is used to join the zipper chain to an item. Bottom Stop - Is used on closed end zips to prevent the slider from running off the zip teeth.
Open End (Seperating Unit) - The open end unit is made up of three parts: a. Pin - the pin is placed onto the end of one side of the teeth and is placed into the box. b. Box - The box is placed onto the other side of the teeth and is the area where the pin is placed into. c. Reinforcement Tape - is placed onto the bottom 1cm of the zip to allow easy insertion of the pin into the box
How to Measure a Zip Measuring a zip is done on all styles by measuring from the extremities of the zip teeth (this includes the length of the bottom stop, open end unit or top stop).
